With your support, we're amplifying a grassroots model of Caribbean filmmaking that uplifts creatives, connects diasporas, and redefines what cinema can be.
Behind the seams
As part of production, Threads of Us integrated a paid internship and mentorship program rooted in professional development, offering hands-on experience and real-world training for the next generation of Jamaican creatives.
The Charles Officer Mentorship Program (COMP) is a cultural and professional development initiative created by Humanity Ova Vanity (HOV), a Toronto-based non-profit founded by Donisha Prendergast, in tribute to filmmaker Charles Officer. Designed to empower emerging diasporic Jamaican creatives and strengthen the island’s film industry, COMP offers hands-on training and industry exposure across film and media disciplines.
Launched in 2025, the inaugural COMP cohort included 15 paid interns placed in key departments such as camera, sound, wardrobe, legal, production, and marketing. Each intern was paired with an experienced mentor from Jamaica or Canada, gaining real-world skills during the production of the feature film Threads of Us.
